When you read the articles on evangelism or evangelization on paper and in the Internet you are given the impression that this work is not done effectively or not done at all. Time and again writers say that this is the most important work of the Church and yet it is the most neglected work of all.

A reason for this is that people give to this work only what they can spare extra after their personal, family and social needs are taken care of.

Today I present the ways to finance evangelization and make a critique of each one of them. In this way I hope to elaborate on my answer to the question why evangelism is the most neglected work of the churches.

1. The way of almsgiving. This is the usual way of supporting any church activity, including evangelism or evangelization. (Note on the usage of these two terms: Evangelism is the term preferred by non-Catholic western Christians, like the Protestant groups. Evangelization is the term preferred by Catholics. Some see different meanings in these words. I would say that the basic meaning is the same: announcing the good news of salvation to those who have not yet appropriated personally its meaning.)

Of course Christians have some legitimate issues with the use of the internet. Especially when it comes to protecting our children. Parents do everything in their power to correctly moralize and socialize their children. Many Christian parents have concerns and fear the internet can easy undermine their efforts. Their fears can be summarized in three main categories of issues. Here are the main worries concerning the internet for the followers of Jesus Christ:

1. The time many spend on it the internet with meaningless diversions such as games, movies, socializing, and music (which sometimes have little to no spiritual value for the individual.)
2. Pornography and the host of other spiritual pitfalls that thrive of the internet, including compulsive shopping, gambling, and gossip.
3. The endless mountain of unchallenged misinformation and propaganda perpetuated by those who do not know, or even seem to hate Christ. Much of this information is posted by Wiccans, atheist, and even some who claim to be Christian, but are misled in serious ways.

In this day and age we are challenged as a church to preach the Gospel message to a modern day audience. In western countries the challenge seems to need a more modern approach as it can be argued that traditional methods are not working as well as they use to. This is because we must move with the times and use all the modern technology and forms of communication available to us.

One of the reasons why evangelism programmes fail is because they start off trying to invite people who have no knowledge or connection with their church. First build a ministry that meets a need in the community and then you will have a target audience of people to invite to your evangelistic programme.
